10 Amazing Marathons to Run From Around the World

April 28, 2025 by Elijah Waycaster Leave a Comment

What is so amazing about a marathon?

I think a better question would be, “What’s not to love?” Running a marathon is an amazing experience! There is no way around it. Not only does it provide the opportunity to transform your health during training, but the feeling you get on race day is undoubtedly unparalleled. Plus, you will get to see some amazing scenery that will take your breath away when you run an amazing marathon.

For this post, I have put together a list of ten of the most iconic and awesome marathons from around the world. It is my dream to one day run all of these, and I hope you will too!

1. Boston Marathon

If you are making a list of marathons, Boston will almost always be at the top. When an event attracts over 30,000 runners and half a million spectators, it deserves some recognition. And the lure of Boston? Some might say it is the atmosphere…spectators cheering you on from start to finish. Others might say it is the fact that Boston is an elitist’ event: only 4% of marathoners ever qualify. Whatever the reason, Boston is a giant and worth running. Read more about Boston HERE.

2. Big Sur Marathon

If Boston is number one. Big Sur is certainly a close second. I mean, what’s not to love about 26.2 miles of beautiful California coastland at the end of April? This amazing race will take you on a journey you will never forget. With landmark bridges, sweeping valleys, and vast seascapes, this race attracts runners of all abilities from around the world. 3. Rome Marathon

Steeped in history, Rome is one of the oldest cities in the world. What better way to see such an iconic city than to run through the heart of it and along its picturesque streets? The Rome Marathon may be a race, but I wouldn’t want to run right past everything without stopping a few times to admire the amazing attractions in the city. You can find out more about the Rome Marathon HERE.

4. Great Wall Marathon

Not for the faint of heart, the Great Wall Marathon takes you over one of the toughest marathon courses in the world with 5,000-plus steps to climb. This unique race is all about experiencing Chinese culture at its architectural best. Find out more HERE.

5. London Marathon

What an amazing and emotional experience it would be to run the Athens Marathon; words can not describe it. Following the legendary course from the city of Marathon to the heart of Athens, this journey is supposedly the same path taken by Pheidippides. Learn more about this marathon HERE.

7. New York City Marathon
